Private Sessions with Gwenievere Maria
If you find yourself in a place of transition, where you are letting go—letting go of friendships, belief systems, and even the things that once excited you—this may be a very sacred moment in your life.
You may find that you are especially letting go of how you once defined yourself… how you once saw yourself in this world.
For many of us, we wore a mask that helped define who we were so that others could recognize us, understand us, and even validate themselves through the role we played.
When that mask begins to fall away, something inside us changes.
If you find yourself in this place, you may feel a deep sadness.
Because letting go of who we were—who we thought we were, who we practiced being, and who we worked so hard to show the world—is not a small thing.
When we realize that part of ourselves is dying, it can feel very tender.
Not because it was false.
Not because it wasn’t real.
But because it no longer serves us to hide behind it.
The truth of who we are no longer needs a mask. And when we begin to release those identities, we can feel empty for a while… not yet knowing who we are becoming.
This space can feel like sadness. Sometimes it can even feel like heaviness or depression.
But if you can recognize that what you are feeling is grief—the grief of letting go of who you once believed you had to be—then something beautiful begins to happen.
You begin to honor the process.
You begin to understand that this sadness is not failure.
It is a transformation.
It does not mean that you were not good, kind, or loving.
You were. Those qualities are real. But now you are discovering that you do not have to hide behind those identities in order to be loved.
You are becoming something deeper.
Something more honest.
Something more whole.
So whatever you are feeling, give yourself permission to say the words:
I may be grieving.
This may be sadness.
This heaviness may simply be my heart letting go.
Let yourself feel it.
Let yourself be sad.
And hold the part of yourself that once believed it had to wear a mask in order to be loved.
Be proud of that part of you.
It did the best it could to survive.
It tried to protect you.
It tried to help you belong.
Now you can thank it. You can validate it. You can love it.
And then, gently… You can let it rest.
Because the truth of who you are no longer needs a mask. And that truth is finally ready to be born.
